Wisconsin tight ends Clay Cundiff (undisclosed), Jack Eschenbach (arm) and Hayden Rucci (undisclosed) are all inactive for Saturday’s game against Purdue.
Wisconsin’s numbers at tight end will be limited behind starter Jake Ferguson, as Cundiff (6'3/244), Eschenbach and Rucci are all sidelined. Of the three Cundiff has been the most productive in the passing game, as he’s tallied three receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown. Provided Ferguson stay healthy, Wisconsin should be fine at tight end. But the margin for error is incredibly small.

  • MIA Tight End #87
Wisconsin freshman TE Hayden Rucci (arm) has been ruled out for Wisconsin’s season-opener against USF.
Rucci (6'5/225) injured his left arm in mid-August and has not been able to get completely right in the interim. The four-star freshman will continue his rehabilitation into the campaign as a result. Just when Ruccci might be ready to take the field for his first collegiate game is an unknown at this juncture.
  • MIA Tight End #87
Wisconsin freshman TE Hayden Rucci (arm) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.
Rucci (6'5/225) was sporting a sling on his left arm on Wednesday. Per Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, there is no immediate timetable for his return to camp action. The four-star freshman was unlikely to be an early impact performer, though recent injuries at tight end could accelerate his depth chart ascension. That is, of course, if he can make it back from this arm injury in short order. That does not sound like a given.
  • MIA Tight End #87
Wisconsin received a verbal commitment from four-star 2019 TE Hayden Rucci.
Rucci (6'5/225) is ranked the 11th best tight end in the class by 247 Sports, and the third best player out of the state of Pennsylvania. He also had offers from Virginia, Boston College, Michigan State, Syracuse, and several other FBS schools. We’ve seen several tight ends from Wisconsin become NFL players. It sounds like Rucci has the talent to be one of the next to do so.
