Greg Olsen is retiring after 14 seasons in the NFL.
35-year-old Olsen announced his retirement on FOX’s NFC Championship Game pre-game show, and confirmed he will begin working for the network in 2021. The No. 31 overall pick of the 2007 Draft, Olsen was inconsistent his first few years in the league under Bears OCs Ron Turner and Mike Martz. A 2011 trade to Carolina and Cam Newton immediately turned him into an All-Pro-type player, one who made three Pro Bowls and caught a whopping 742 career passes. That total is fifth all time amongst tight ends. It would have been much higher if not for a spate of late-career foot issues, injuries that limited him to 41 games over the past four years. That, of course, is the nature of football. Olsen will probably end up on the outside looking in of the Hall-of-Fame, but he should at least generate some discussion.

Greg Olsen wasn’t targeted in the Seahawks’ Wild Card loss to the Rams.
The Seahawks completed just 11-of-27 passes this afternoon, so there weren’t exactly high quality targets to go around. Nevertheless, Olsen drew zero looks while Jacob Hollister and Will Dissly were both more involved. Held to 24 grabs in 11 games this season while missing time with more foot issues, soon-to-be 36-year-old Olsen looked like a player at the end of the line. Headed back to free agency, Olsen is probably more likely to begin his broadcasting career than crack someone’s 2021 53-man roster.

Jacob Hollister caught both of his targets for 17 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ Week 15 win against the Football Team.
Hollister, who continues to lead Seattle tight ends in pass routes, caught Russell Wilson’s lone touchdown pass in Seattle’s depressingly scaled down passing attack. Will Dissly did not see a target against Washington. Greg Olsen (foot) returning from injured reserve in the next week or two would end Hollister’s fantasy relevance for now. Even without Olsen, he’s a borderline streaming option in 14-team formats.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Greg Olsen (foot, IR) is a “longshot” to play in Week 15 against Washington.
Olsen was designated to return from IR earlier this week. He got in some practice reps but is unlikely to be activated for Sunday’s game. Seattle will continue to go with a committee of Will Dissly and Jacob Hollister with Olsen sidelined.

Seahawks designated TE Greg Olsen (foot) to return from injured reserve.
Olsen is just under four weeks removed from a 4-6 week injury. He’ll return to practice this week, giving him a chance to play Sunday. Olsen will form a committee with Will Dissly when he returns.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Greg Olsen is “moving around terrifically” in his recovery from a foot injury.
Olsen was given a 4-6 week recovery timeline when he was placed on injured reserve November 23. He could conceivably make it back for Week 15 or Week 16, depending on how the Seahawks handle the veteran’s injury. Jacob Hollister, despite playing far fewer snaps than Will Dissley, has led Seattle tight ends in targets (9) since Olsen went on IR. Neither Hollister nor Dissley are ideal streaming candidates in a struggling Seattle offense.

  • FA Tight End #88
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll hopes TE Greg Olsen (foot) will return in 4-6 weeks.
Olsen is currently on injured reserve with a ruptured left plantar fascia after contributing 23 catches for 224 yards through 10 games. Will Dissly will continue to play the bulk of the team’s offensive snaps, and Jacob Hollister likely returns as the pass catching option in Olsen’s absence.

Seahawks placed Greg Olsen (foot) on injured reserve.
The Seahawks remain uncertain if Olsen will return at all this year. 35-year-old Olsen recorded 23 catches for 224 yards and one score through 10 games before going down. Considering his age and history of foot issues, Week 11 against the Panthers could have been the final game (and a fitting one) in Olsen’s excellent career.

Greg Olsen has been diagnosed with a ruptured left plantar fascia.
That’s not one you hear about too often. It is certainly better than a torn Achilles’ tendon, but coach Pete Carroll was uncertain if his 35-year-old tight end would be able to return this season. It doesn’t seem likely, especially for someone with Olsen’s lengthy history of foot issues. It’s an awful break for Olsen but a survivable one for the Seahawks, who have Jacob Hollister and Will Dissly waiting in the wings. Regardless of Olsen’s official timeline, he can be safely dropped wherever he was still rostered, which wasn’t many places. Hollister will be worth TE2 gander in Week 12 against the Eagles.

Greg Olsen was forced from Seattle’s Week 11 game against the Cardinals with a left leg injury.
We are not doctors, but it appeared like Olsen’s left Achilles’ tendon popped in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. Olsen went down in non-contact fashion before writhing on the field in obvious distress. Russell Wilson appeared to say a prayer over his teammate before he was carted to the locker room. 35-year-old Olsen had two catches for 20 yards before going down. He has not been productive of late, catching just nine passes over his past six games. Considering his age and history of foot issues, tonight could have been the final game of Olsen’s excellent career.
