6yTim Herron has a short commute to the inaugural 3M Open as he preps for TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

Lumpy lives just west of the Twin Cities (Wayzata) so this is a hometown event for Herron who arrives with a 3-for-6 record on the season. He’s losing strokes in all four sub-categories of strokes gained, except around-the-green where he gains 0.585 strokes per round. Herron has just one top 10 on the big stage since the 2013 season began so gamers should not get too excited about the local narrative. A top 30 would be considered a great week for him at this point in his career. Herron will be able to join the PGA TOUR Champions circuit next year when he turns 50 in February.

7yTim Herron brought his ex-caddie back and got his first win in his last 204 events, holding off Richard Johnson in sudden death to take the Bank of America Colonial title.

Herron’s driver left him over the last four holes of regulation, but he got it back again for sudden death, draining a nine-foot putt on the second hole for the win. He hit several long putts to save par over the last few holes and then got it done in extra holes. He brought caddie Scott Steele back after firing him prior to the start of the season. He recently had twin boys and moved back to Minnesota from Arizona, so bringing Steele back provided some much needed stability in his life. His last win on tour came in way back in 1999 at Bay Hill.

7yTim Herron and Tom Pernice Jr. are tied at 7-under for the lead heading into the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

To say both men scrambled would be putting it mildly, but they did it on opposite nines and hold a one-shot lead over Kris Cox, who exploded for a 63 on Saturday. Herron struggled on the back, failing to record a birdie, taking a couple bogeys and hitting several clutch putts to save par and bogey. Pernice struggled on the front side, with a pair of three-putts and no birdies.

7yTim Herron birdied his last hole on Friday to move to 8-under par and a tie for the lead at the PGA Championship.

He shares the lead with Henrik Stenson, Luke Donald and Billy Andrade after shooting 69-67 in the opening two rounds. He’s on the verge of making the Ryder Cup team, and a strong finish this weekend would secure him a place on the team.

7yTim Herron, Trevor Immelman, Brandt Jobe, Bernhard Langer, Shigeki Maruyama and John Senden have all withdrawn from this week’s 84 LUMBER Classic.

They’ve been replaced by Paul Azinger, Jose Coceres, Skip Kendall and Jesper Parnevik. Parnevik is hot and could be a decent play this week.

7yTim Herron submitted a 6-under-par 32-33=65 as his opening round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, finishing two back of the clubhouse lead.

Lumpy hit 16 greens and coaxed in seven birdies, including conversions of 13'7", 11'0" and 11'2" at the fifth, ninth and 10th holes, respectively. He was the tenth to sign for a 65. Herron entered the Fall Series ranked 105th in earnings, so he’s a virtual lock to retain his PGA TOUR card entering 2012. Naturally, three more rounds of great golf would clinch it.

7yTim Herron followed his opening 65 with a 5-under-par 33-33=66 in his second round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, reaching the midpoint in 11-under 131, one back of the clubhouse co-leaders.

Lumpy hit only 13 greens today but swallowed just one bogey. Of his six birdies, five measured more than 10 feet, including conversions of 16'4", 20'4", 16'1" and 21'11" at the 10th, 17th, first and sixth holes, respectively. Overall, he’s hit 29 greens and taken a mere 54 putts.

Herron tied for 11th at Bay Hill in what was his fifth cut made in nine attempts. He last made the cut here in 2008 when he tied for 39th

7yTim Herron looks to channel 1999 in the 2012 edition of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Herron held off Tom Lehman in a playoff for his third PGA TOUR victory in the 1999 Bay Hill Invitational. This season, he’s batting .500 in cuts, making four of eight. It’s been a fight this year, as he ranks 150th in all-around ranking.

7yTim Herron posted a steady 4-under-par 34-34=68 to move up the leaderboard in the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Herron is now 3-under 74-71-68=213 for the week and will look to punch his first top 25 of the season with a strong final round on Sunday. For the week, he has hit 28 (of 42) fairways and 72.2 percent of his GIR. He navigated his third round with five birdies to a lone bogey.
