7yThe opening round of the True South Classic has been suspended until Friday at 8:30 a.m. due to unplayable conditions.

Over one inch of rain has fallen on Annandale Golf Club today. The course sits atop clay, so drainage is poor and slow. This tournament was banged in 2009 due to turf that just wouldn’t dry in time. Spike McRoy is one of 65 golfers in the afternoon wave that was stranded. He played two holes, starting par-triple bogey. Only four golfers in the late draw have completed as many as 10 holes.

7ySpike McRoy has been added to the published field of this week’s True South Classic.

McRoy received one of the final two sponsor exemptions into the tournament. He was an early withdrawal from last year’s edition. He’s competed in it nine times but not since 2008. The one-time PGA TOUR winner hasn’t competed anywhere since missing the cut at the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2010.

7ySpike McRoy withdrew on Wednesday from the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

McRoy just got into the Mayakoba field yesterday afternoon. He has been replaced in the field by John Morse, who had a respectable T-39 at the Mexico Open on the Nationwide Tour earlier this month.

7ySpike McRoy has been added to the field of the Valero Texas Open.

McRoy has two made cuts in five starts at the Texas Open and his best finish at the event is a 66th place in 1999.

McRoy’s only start this season was at the Nationwide Tour’s Chitimacha Louisiana Open and he missed the cut.

7ySpike McRoy was added to the published field of this week’s Legends Reno-Tahoe Open.

The 2002 B.C. Open winner has been stuck with Past Champion status since 2005, and hasn’t competed on the PGA Tour since last year’s Viking Classic.

7ySpike McRoy has been added to the field of this week’s Viking Classic.

McRoy was the 10th alternate when the field was published on Friday and can thank Ted Schulz, who withdrew as the 9th alternate, for the tee time at Annandale. McRoy’s last Top 5 on the PGA Tour occurred at this event in 2002 (T-5), when it was shortened to 54 holes due to weather. He’s had another forgettable season this year and is headed directly to Q School.

McRoy has mostly played on the Nationwide Tour this season. He has been replaced in the field by Gary Hallberg, who will be playing in his first event of the season.

McRoy has been splitting time over the last few seasons between the Nationwide and PGA Tours. This will be his first start of the 2010 season.

McRoy started the week as the fifth alternate into this week’s Viking Classic. If he tees it up this week, it will be his first start of the season.
