6yRobert Allenby’s career lurches to this week’s Australian PGA Championship at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

Last year the veteran Aussie was T16 at this venue, his only top 20 anywhere in the world since mid-2017 on the Korn Ferry Tour and he’s made 43 starts since a top ten (T5, also on the Korn Ferry Tour, in early 2017). He arrives on a run of 1-for-9 and hasn’t broken 70 since the final round of the Puerto Rico Open in February (when T49). Once dynamite on home soil, that is now a long forgotten trend. He is 3-for-5 on the course, with a best of T13 on debut in 2013. He has broken 70 just twice in 16 laps of the course.

7yRobert Allenby withdrew from the Memorial due to a bad back.

He’s been pulling out of events frequently over the past month, so his back problem could linger all year.

7yRobert Allenby has withdrawn from the Barclay’s Classic.

He’s got a back problem and it’s unknown when he’ll be back at full strength. His wife also has a blood clot in her leg, so his status for the U.S. Open is highly in doubt.

7yRobert Allenby is 6-under-par 69-67=136 through 36 holes of the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

The Aussie was the second alternate for the WGC-Match Play but didn’t hesitate to travel to Mexico when he learned of his fate last week. He’s capitalized at El Camaleon, too, with 10 birdies against four bogeys to reach the midpoint two strokes off the pace of the clubhouse co-leaders.

7yRobert Allenby turned in a 2-under-par 35-34=69 for his opening round of the Transitions Championship.

Good stuff for a guy with a broken nose. When Ben Everill of the Australian Associated Press tweeted that Allenby “will be fine to play through,” he wasn’t hyperbolizing. Allenby hit 13 greens and converted three birdies, two of which on par 5s.

7yRobert Allenby is listed in the published field of next week’s Transitions Championship.

We might see a guy with one or two black eyes at Copperhead. It all depends on how he’s healing from his broken nose. Allenby hasn’t played this event since 2008 but has a pair of top 15s in four appearance.

7yRobert Allenby broken his nose during a fall on his boat, according to Australian Associated Press’ Ben Everill on Twitter.

Everill wrote: “Robert Allenby has a broken nose... and a black eye after a fight with his boat... Slipped & fell. Will be fine to play though...” This sounds familiar. The golfer took a spill in his boat in August 2010, tearing ligaments in his right knee. And that was two months after he hurt his wrist while fishing. Sigh.

7yRobert Allenby will tee it up in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

The Aussie has notched eight cuts in 12 attempts, but has slipped to 87th in ball-striking this year. He enters this week not having cracked a top 30 since his playoff loss at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. He did not compete in this event last season.

7yRobert Allenby claimed his second top 10 of the year when his final-round 1-under-par 34-35=69 was good enough for a share of seventh at 6-under 274.

The Aussie circled three birdies and swallowed two bogeys in his first nine holes before coming home with nine pars. While he landed 12 GIR, he needed 29 putts to the tune of a 1.833 average to navigate the TPC Southwind. He did not qualify for the U.S. Open.

7yRobert Allenby fired a 3-under-par 35-32=67 in the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic to join Dustin Johnson in the clubhouse at 5-under 205.

Allenby stepped on the 15th tee at even-par on the day, having offset his bogey on the seventh with a birdie on the following hole. He then went on a run, making birdie at 15, 16 and 17 before settling for par on the 18th. He landed 13 GIR while needing 28 putts to the tune of a 1.692 average to circle the TPC Southwind. He will attempt to claim his fifth PGA TOUR title, and first since 2001, on Sunday.
