Let the confusion commence! THIS Richard Johnson is a Welshman. There’s also Richard S. Johnson, a Swede. Both have status on the PGA Tour in 2008. The easy-going Wales native was the 2007 Nationwide Tour money leader but has played in just two PGA Tour events since becoming a full-time touring pro in 1999. He’s an intriguing fantasy player, worth a spot in the middle-to-late rounds and the only 2007 Nationwide Tour grad not to enter the Sony Open.

7yRichard Johnson crafted a Monday qualifying round of 7-under-par 65 at the Windyke Country Club East course to share medalist honors with Rob Garland.

Also earning a spot in the St. Jude Classic were Rodney Butcher (67) and Edward Loar (68).

7yRichard Johnson scored an aggregate 10-over par through 36 holes at the PODS Championship.

The Welshman will easily miss the cut, which will be his sixth in seven events already this season. He was a career underachiever until leading the money list on the Nationwide Tour last year. Fantasy owners were counting on that mojo to pay dividends this year but have been seriously disappointed. He’s scheduled to compete in his first-ever Arnold Palmer Invitational next week.

7yRichard Johnson signed for a bogey-free, 3-under par 67 after his opening round of the Colonial.

The Welshman found just five (of 14) fairways and only half of his GIR but managed to navigate a very breezy Colonial sans a bogey or worse. Taking 24 putts, Johnson’s round is his second-lowest on tour this year, behind his remarkable final round 65 in similar conditions at the nearby Nelson. He’s missed 10 of 14 cuts so Johnson’s owners should delay their exuberance until he completes 36 holes.

7yRichard Johnson missed the 36-hole cut by two strokes at the inaugural Puerto Rico Open.

The 2007 Nationwide Tour money leader has now missed seven of nine cuts this year. His fantasy owners had to be thinking that he would finally snap out of it in the thin field this week. He’ll try again next week in New Orleans, where he’s never played.

7yRichard Johnson carded a field-best, 5-under 65 in the final round of the Byron Nelson Championship and finished T-31.

Johnson was in one of the last groups to tee off on the back, making this effort even more impressive considering how the weather affected play. He’s made just three of 11 cuts this year and is scheduled to play in his first Wachovia and PLAYERS the next two weeks. Maybe Sunday’s effort is a sign of things to come. No doubt his fantasy owners expected much, much more after he led the 2007 Nationwide Tour money list.

7yRichard Johnson withdrew from the Zurich Classic on Monday.

Johnson has had a terrible start this season with seven out of nine cuts missed. He has been replaced in the field by Marco Dawson, who gets in to the Zurich Classic via his T-6 finish at the Puerto Rico Open.

7yRichard Johnson crafted a 6-under-par 64 in the opening round of the Frys.com Open.

From what galaxy did this performance originate? Goodness. Johnson hit 16 GIR and took an efficient 28 putts today en route to the clubhouse lead. Outstanding conditions helped and it’s just one round but it’s a career low for the Welshman, both in terms of aggregate and in relation to par. He has yet to crack the Top 25 on the PGA Tour and has cashed in only eight of 26 starts in this his rookie season.
