Goydos

Goydos tweeted: “Played golf in the morning, Magic Kingdom in the afternoon, and dinner with the Lehmans. Pretty good day!! Oblique feels much better.” We can only assume that he had his meal with Tom and his family. Goydos is scheduled to go off the first tee at the Palm Course at 11:50 a.m. ET. He’s in the first twosome of the late draw with Troy Merritt.

In an interview with PGATOUR.com, Goydos informed that he’s entered in the U.S. Open qualifier in California on June 4. He’s scheduled to physical therapy for the next three weeks and hopes to start hitting balls again in the middle of May. He had surgery to remove a bone spur on his left wrist on March 13.

Goydos wrote: “Surgery tomorrow. Having a large Bone spur removed from left wrist.” This certainly explains the pain and swelling he’s cited. The time outside the ropes should also allow his right elbow and left knee to recover from recent discomfort. Consider this the other shoe dropping. Time for you to do the same to him if you still own him in a long-term league.

As we’ve relayed on multiple occasions, Goydos had complained about pain in his wrist. “The bone spur doesn’t hurt, but it’s rubbing up against the tendon,” he said. Recovery time is about six weeks, but he could be sidelined for as many as 15 after rehab and resuming practice. The only notable event for which he’s eligible is THE PLAYERS in May. Given his timetable, he’s not likely to return until June if not July. “There’s no reason for me to play unless I’m fit enough to play,” he added. Should he sit out at least four months, he’ll automatically qualify for a Major Medical Extension for 2013 if he needs it. He’s already one month into that requirement.

He tweeted the following:: “Bone Spur in my left wrist!! Most likely causing most of the pain and swelling in my left hand.” He hasn’t played since missing the cut at the Northern Trust three weeks ago. Just over a month ago, he tweeted a litany of maladies with which he was dealing at the time. Given this news, his age (47) and that he hasn’t posted a top 25 among two paydays in six starts, it might be time to discard him to the free-agent pile.

He didn’t do anything today to eliminate concern over his litany of injuries that foces him out of last week’s opener at TPC Scottsdale. At Pebble today, he hit 10 (of 14) fairways yet only eight greens. And he needed 27 putts. His longest conversions were par saves of 11'8" and 13'2" at the ninth and 14th holes, respectively.

Goydos was a late scratch from this week’s WMPO due to a myriad of maladies. If he’s able to give it a go at Pebble Beach, it will be his 17th appearance at the tournament. He placed T5 there two years ago.

The 47-year-old signed for a 9-over-par 37-43=80 before calling it quits for the week. He split nine (of 14) fairways but only six greens and took 29 putts. He swallowed four bogeys and three doubles. UPDATE: Following his WD, Goydos alerted his followers on Twitter that he’s banged up: “Got no game whatsoever!! Left Wrist, Right Elbow, and left knee are hurting. It’s only The first week in February!! Going to be a long year.”

Wacker wrote: “Just off the phone with @PaulGoydosPGA. Doesn’t sound good for him to be back this year. Expect him to file for a medical.” Goydos had surgery to remove a bone spur in his left wrist on March 13, but was expected to return at the John Deere Classic in mid-July. We’ll add to this update if Wacker writes copy that provides further details.
