PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – A very good start at The Players Championship turned into a very bad night for Ryan Palmer.

Just hours after Palmer completed his opening 67 at TPC Sawgrass for a share of fourth place, he received the type of phone call no one ever wants to get. A childhood friend of Palmer’s died Thursday night in Texas following a car crash.

Palmer etched the initials “CA” into his hat for Friday’s second round at TPC Sawgrass to honor Clay Aderholt, who grew up with Palmer in Texas.
