AUGUSTA, Ga. – Padraig Harrington hasn’t been in contention in a major championship in several years but he still has something that no one else at the Masters has.
“I’ve won more majors than anybody else in the last five years,” he said. “I’m quite happy to be sitting on three.”
Harrington, 40, shot a third-round 68 Saturday to vault into contention at the Masters, a place where he’s had minimal success and missed the cut the past two years. The Irishman was off the radar, but found his way onto it when he birdied five of the last six holes.
“It’s not the player who plays the most consistent, it’s a bit more flamboyancy,” says Harrington of the attributes needed to win here Sunday. “You only have to look at the way Phil (Mickelson) has won some of his majors. Fortune favors the brave here.”
“I’m going to let it happen rather than force anything. I’m not worried about other people’s expectations of me.”
