PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Players champion Matt Kuchar is now fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking. With his fourth PGA Tour win and first since the 2010 Barclays, Kuchar moved up 11 spots to crack the top five for the first time in his career.
Luke Donald, who finished solo sixth, remains second to Rory McIlroy. Donald needed to finish better than solo fourth to overtake McIlroy, who missed the cut at Sawgrass for the third time in three starts.
Lee Westwood is third while the idle Bubba Watson is fourth. Hunter Mahan is sixth while Tiger Woods remained seventh. Steve Stricker, Martin Kaymer and Phil Mickelson round out the top 10.
Ben Curtis continued his march back to relevance, finishing T-2 in The Players. The result moved him up another 44 places to No. 72. The week before the Valero Texas Open, Curtis was 285th in the world.
The other three Players runners-up improved their position as well. Martin Laird gained eight spots to No. 39. Zach Johnson gained five places to No. 32. Last week’s winner Rickie Fowler improved to 18th from 24th.
