James Driscoll will be a popular player to root for this week at the RBC Heritage.
Driscoll, who grew up just outside Boston, will donate $1,000 for every birdie he makes this week and next to the Birdies for Boston initiative that will help victims affected by the Boston Marathon bombings. All money raised will go to One Fund Boston. Update: Driscoll made nine birdies in 54 holes at Harbour Town, for a $9,000 donation. He did not make the 54-hole cut.

Driscoll had many friends at Monday’s event, though he said no one he knew was injured.
“Things like this unfortunately happen in the world, and you feel the pain,” he told PGATour.com. “When it happens in America, it hits home more. But when it happens in your community, you can’t help but feel it way more. I live two blocks from where the bombs went off. That’s where I went to hang out. So when I see Boylston Street all over the news, covered in yellow crime scene tape, it just really hits home.”
