Grandfather, 100, following Martin at Wegmans LPGA

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Mo Martin’s grandfather is faithfully following his favorite player around the Wegmans LPGA Championship in a red scooter.

He is 100 years old.

Lincoln Martin proudly watched Mo open at Locust Hill Thursday with a 1-under-par 71. She’s a 29-year-old rookie and Symetra Tour grad from California who relishes her grandfather’s support.

“He went through two world wars and the Depression,” Mo told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle in a feature story in Friday’s newspaper. “He lost his son [and two wives]. His family was so poor growing up that they slept in a car for a time and … he’s the most content person I’ve ever met.”

Lincoln, named after Abraham Lincoln, worked for Shell and developed the vortex generator. The secret to his longevity? Ice cream. He says he eats ice cream up to three times a day, including with his Sugar Pops cereal in the morning.
