Weekly Fix: Stable trail knee, post-impact extension

Welcome back to Weekly Fix! I’m Tim Cooke and each week on GolfChannel.com we’re taking a closer look at your swings in hopes of helping you play better golf.

This week, we’re going to analyze David’s golf swing.

David has been playing for only about a year and a half and he’s doing a good job by shooting in the low 90s. But he wants to get down in the 80s regularly, which we’re going to try to help him do.

Even more specifically in that quest, we’re going to try to help David stop hitting so many shots off the toe, something that gives him problems.

In summary, some of the ideas I would suggest that everyone take away from this week’s analysis would include the following:

• It is important to maintain lateral stability in your trail knee in your backswing. It can straighten backwards, as long as it doesn’t lock, but a lateral bowing of the trail knee will limit your to ability to coil properly in the backswing.

• When you watch great players hit golf shots, you will notice that they often have tremendous extension after impact. A great thought you can have that many top players use to help achieve better extension is to feel as if you have a long left arm at impact. This will help you eliminate a flip of the hands or the dreaded chicken wing post-impact.

That’s it for this week’s edition of Weekly Fix. Keep sending us your videos at WeeklyFix@GolfChannel.com, and we’ll be back with a new edition right here next week.
