Weekly Fix: Improve your foot action and swing path

Thumbnail

Welcome back to Weekly Fix! I’m Tim Cooke and we’re taking a look at your golf swings on GolfChannel.com.

This week, we’re going to analyze James’ swing and there’s a lot to like about his action.

Most notably, James has tremendous footwork, both in terms of his balance and how he transfers his weight from his right side to his left side on the downswing and through impact.

The one thing, however, that I’d like to see James work on is his swing path, which as we’ll discuss in our analysis is a bit too much from inside out.

Popular golf instruction tips: Setup | Full Swing | Power | Accuracy

As a quick summary, the tips I would suggest that everyone take away from this week’s analysis would include the following:

• You want your weight moving off your trail foot in the downswing so pressure is moving from your right heel to the ball of your left foot in transition. This will allow you to have the sensation that the ankles are rolling towards the target in the downswing.

• Approaching the ball from the inside on the downswing is optimal but a swing path that is too much from in to out can lead to hooks and blocks.

• If you want to fade the golf ball, a great feel to have is that the finish to your swing is lower with the right arm moving across the chest.

That’s it for this week’s edition of Weekly Fix. Keep sending us those videos at WeeklyFix@GolfChannel.com, and we’ll be back with a brand new edition next week right here at GolfChannel.com.
