Dig in with Adidas’ new Powerband shoes

The golf shoe category seems to be going in two directions these days. One is the way of those entries that are casual and spikeless and Freddie Couples cool. They look as if they would work as well on the deck of a sailboat as on the fairway of a golf hole and appear to suit players of all ages and abilities. They can also be worn to and from the links.

The other is moving in the polar opposite, aspiring to be even more technical and stable and coming in packages that are all about athletics and attitude.

The Adidas Powerband 4.0 falls in that latter realm, and according to company officials, that shoe is all about eliminating so-called “power leaks” and helping golfers better transfer their power from backswing to the ball at impact. This iteration of the Adidas shoe is designed to do those things through the Powerband “chassis,” which is designed to provide lateral stability from the ground up to enable golfers to make faster, more aggressive swings, without losing balance or control.

It also utilizes a stretch-resistant synthetic overlay on full-grain leather uppers for added stability and durability. Other features of note include an Adidas Golf FitFOAM insole, which is employed for long-lasting cushioning, and a TPU forefoot with an eight-spike configuration. The company’s THINTECH low-profile technology gets the golfer’s feet closer to the ground for enhanced feel and traction.

“There is no better way to support golf’s growing power game than by advancing golf’s most powerful shoe,” says Bill Price, senior director of global footwear for Adidas Golf. “The Powerband 4.0 provokes confidence because it delivers the support and stability aggressive golfers need – and does so at a tour-proven level.”

The Powerband 4.0 is offered in medium and wide widths, carries a ClimaProof two-year warranty and is available in a choice of three color ways.
