Hi, I’m Tim Cooke, and welcome back to Weekly Fix, as we take a closer look at your swings each week on GolfChannel.com.
This week, we’re going to take a look at Abhishek’s swing. He has some trouble in an area that many of you most likely struggle with as well, and that’s backswing sequence.
We’ve talked a lot during the last several weeks about downswing sequence, but sequencing your backswing correctly is equally important.
And in our video this week, we’ll discuss proper sequencing of the backswing, why it’s so important and why it will help Abhishek in particular with his ball-striking.
Popular golf instruction tips: Setup | Full Swing | Power | Accuracy
In summary this week, the tips I would suggest that everyone take away from this analysis would include the following:
• If you turn your hips and chest too early in your backswing, you’re going to get the club too far behind you and in a “deep” position, which will cause you to make some compensations in your downswing that will make consistency difficult to achieve.
• Try to feel as if your hands stay close to your body in your takeaway, as that will make it easier to keep the clubhead outside of the hands going back, which will help avoid the overly ‘deep’ backswing.
• When it comes to sequence in the golf swing, remember that the chain of events is opposite in the backswing and the downswing. Going back it’s the small muscles (hands and arms) that go first and then the big muscles (hips and chest), while coming down it’s the big muscles that go first, led by the lower body, and then the small muscles.
