PGA TOUR Q School wraps up at the end of today’s final round and stories like 53-year-old Tom Pernice, Jr. and 2-time heart transplant Erik Compton are the reasons that Q School and by extension the game of golf is compelling. He will miss PGA TOUR Q School and he feels that he will not be the only one.
Two players including Moriya Jutanugarn of Thailand tied for medalist honors in the LPGA Tour Q School and they lead the 20 players to earn LPGA Tour cards for 2013. An amazing thing about Moriya is that while she is the older sister, she is not as accomplished as younger sister Ariya Jutanugarn who was too young to participate in LPGA Tour Q School this year. When you look at the list of those players, you see even more proof that golf is a global game because of all of the countries that are represented.
The 41st President of the United States George H.W. Bush is the hospital right now with bronchitis in Houston and Sirak reflected on covering the 41st President by saying that he learned that he kept a long putter inside a grandfather clock in the Oval Office and that you could get from Central Park to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey really fast if you were with a President. Former President Bush has devoted a great deal of time talking about the ills of slow play and has lived by example when he plays golf.
Christina Kim is a great personality who brings a great deal of passion to the LPGA Tour but she will be playing in 2013 with conditional status. While we may not see Christina Kim as often in 2013, she will still get to play a good number of events because she is a past champion and because she is a fan favorite. Sirak hopes that Kim’s game returns to form.
The USGA issued a statement after a fan heckled Keegan Bradley for using an anchored stroke with his putter and Sirak said that he felt bad that Bradley had to deal with that and that the USGA was in a position where it had to release a statement to apologize. If the USGA had to issue a statement every time a fan heckled a player, the organization would not have time to do anything else. He hopes that something like this does not happen again.
