Sergio Garcia is no longer mixing business with pleasure, as he’ll have his usual caddie, Neil Wallace, on the bag this week when he makes his 2014 debut in Abu Dhabi.

Last month, of course, Garcia ended a turbulent year by winning the Thailand Golf Championship with his girlfriend, Katharina Boehm, as his caddie.

No, they haven’t broken up. Instead, it sounds like it was Boehm’s idea to turn the bag back over to a seasoned looper.

“I wanted to keep going but she fired me,” Garcia joked, via Sky Sports. “It was something she wanted to do since we started dating, and I thought that would be a good week, being the end of the year and maybe a little bit more relaxed.

“I think it turned out pretty good, but I think we’ll leave it. She has a good winning percentage at the moment.”

Boehm might want to be ready just in case. After all, Sergio has shown a notoriously quick hook with caddies, going through seven bagmen in the past year and a half.

Anyway, if Garcia wins this week, don’t expect a repeat of this player-caddie celebration.
