Scottish surprises

I thought about wearing a kilt to work! That’s how jacked I was about Day 1 of the Open Championship, but I thought that might get me a visit to the Human Resources office here at Golf Channel so I opted for pants.

While watching at my cubicle all day I witnessed a few surprises:

*Scoring was incredible. There were 96 golfers who finished at even par or better. Old Tom Morris must have been rolling over in his grave.

*Tiger Woods putted well. I thought dropping his Scotty Cameron for a swoosh model would be a spike strip on the highway to another St. Andrews title. But, outside of the short ones missed on 17 and18, Woods looked good on the greens.

*Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk did not live up to the hype. I felt both of these guys had the shots and the patience to play well at St. Andrews but a 73 by Lefty and a 77 by Furyk means these top 10 players will have to go low on Friday or its trunk slamming time. Wait, in Scotland its boot slamming time.
