CHARLOTTE, N.C. – As colleague Rex Hoggard blogged earlier, Phil Mickelson was starting to feel the effects of his stomach issues late in the round. Rex spotted him on No. 15 looking like he was about to say uncle. But obviously he didn’t. However, on 16 green Phil tapped in long before Rory Sabbatini and Jim Furyk had finished.
Showing the effects of fatigue, Phil walked to the side of the green and took a seat on his golf bag. And at that moment I was reminded of Phil’s reach in the game. Not only were the thousands of fans watching Phil instead of the action, but so too were the 40 photogs or so. They kept looking out of one eye at the action on the green so they wouldn’t distract the other players while they framed the pic of Phil looking like toast on the bottom edge of his bag.
