Not sure if it was my inner golf clock or bad chicken from dinner last night but I woke up at exactly 4:01 a.m. ET and I’m glad I did. I watched Mark Calcavecchia shoot a beautiful 67 and he heads into the weekend at 7 under par.
I talked to Mark at the Memorial this year in his final PGA Tour event before turning 50 and joining the Champions Tour. He was reflective about his career and said he looked forward to the Champions Tour because it offers him an opportunity to ‘screw up some different holes.’
For those who have had the pleasure to meet Mark you know he’s lovable, funny and passionate about the game and this tournament. I hope his body and mind hold up through the weekend and he doesn’t ‘screw up’ any holes so he can get a shot at another claret jug.
Now, it’s off to the pantry for breakfast, probably something with the name bran in it. I’m not too far from Champions Tour age myself.
