Get ready for a new viewing experience. Augusta National announced Monday that the 2010 Masters Tournament will be produced and boradcast live in 3D.
This will be the first sporting event to be broadcast in 3D. Augusta National said they will have multiple 3D cameras ‘placed strategically throughout the course,’ primarily on the back nine.
“Innovation has always been part of Masters tradition,” said Masters Tournament chairman Billy Payne. “Utilizing this technology marks another important milestone in allowing our at-home patrons to better experience the beauty of our course and excitement of our tournament.’
Two hours of live afternoon 3D coverage will be available each day beginning during Wednesday’s Par 3 Contest on April 7 and continuing throughout the four tournament rounds, Thursday, April 8 – Sunday, April 11.
Sony Electronics and Comcast will combine in the production effort to provide the content and distribution channels free to Comcast housholds throughout the U.S. with 3D sets. A feed will also be available on the Masters’ Web site.
