GREENSBORO, N.C. – John Daly injured his shoulder in round two of the PGA Championship trying to hit out of a fairway bunker on the first hole at Whistling Straits. He withdrew from the event fearing he tore his rotator cuff but still made the trip to Sedgefield and teed it up this week.
I spoke with Daly and he said after an MRI doctors determined he strained his rotator cuff instead of tearing it, so he decided to play this week on a course Daly loves and fans love him here in NASCAR country.
The good news for Daly is Sedgefield has some give.
The course is very spongy with the recent rains in the area and the soft conditions are not putting a lot of pressure on his shoulder when he strikes the ball. He opened The Wyndham Championship with a 68 on Thursday.
