JERSEY CITY, N.J. – This just in: Liberty National is a beast.

There were just four scores under 70 in Round 2. It was breezy, but not windy, and the occasional light shower early in the day.

The course would have to be classified as super-modern, but in some ways it’s a throwback to a previous generation.

It’s built on 108 acres, which is very similar to some of the all-time great courses built in the early 20th century. The green contouring resembles that era as well, as they don’t look like they were ever designed to roll at 11 on the Stimpmeter. And it’s been a long time since I’ve seen so many PGA Tour players hit so many long irons and hybrids into par-4s and even one par-3.
