Just picked this up off the daily recap of the new Nationwide Tour event in Colombia, where 48-year-old veteran Steve Pate holds the 54-hole lead for the first time in 18 years.
The ‘Volcano’, as he was known in his earlier years, has never been one to pull a punch. So I LOL’d in front of my computer when I read this quote from ‘Pater’.
‘My body’s in horrible shape and it’s just a matter of time before I start shanking it and hitting it fat. I may go out and vomit all over myself tomorrow but it’s fun to be in this position.”
It reminded me of an old Nolan Henke quote. Nolan always had a dry wit and quite often it was at his own expense. When asked once in the press room why he had such a self-deprecating sense of humor, he responded, ‘That’s easy, because I suck.’
They just don’t make them like they used to.
