Blast from the past

Of all the great stories on Saturday from Whistling Straits, one of the most impressive to me is the play of Steve Elkington, who is 8 under after 54 holes. The 47-year-old is playing his first major of 2010. As a matter of fact, it’s been tough for Elk to get into tournaments, relying mostly on sponsor invitations given he has no PGA Tour card.

However, Elkington knows how to play well in big events. He’s a winner of the ’95 PGA Championship and a two-time winner of The Players Championship.

The Big Aussie has just two top-10’s this year, both coming in opposite field events. If he keeps things together, he will have another top-10 in a tournament with one of the strongest fields in golf.
