GLADSTONE, N.J. – I rarely get the chance to cover the LPGA because we have so much live golf on our air these days, so when I do get assigned to do one, I relish it. Quite simply, it’s fun, and the level of play never ceases to amaze me.
Today, I followed Stacy Lewis and Amanda Blumenherst in their first round match at the Sybase Match Play, and it was some of the best golf I’ve seen in a while. A Blumenherst eagle at 18 led to a 1-up victory. The back nine had Blumenherst at 5 under and Lewis at 4 under on a difficult course.
As matches go, it was one to remember. Unfortunately it was the first round. Hopefully I/we will be treated to more of the same as the weekend unfolds.
