DUBLIN, Ohio – Zach Johnson, who arrived at Muirfield Village fresh from his seventh PGA Tour victory last week at Colonial via a Georgia lake where he and Stewart Cink spent a day wakeboarding, could be forgiven for his slightly erratic play during Wednesday’s Skins Game.
Johnson hit into two different water hazards and finished the day with three skins. Adding to his hectic week was a phone call from U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin on Monday.
His Colonial victory moved Johnson to 12th on the U.S. points list and Pavin wanted to offer some captain-like advice.
“Keep it up. If anything (the call) was just to encourage me,” Johnson smiled.
