Weekly Fix: Setup and practicing impact position

Welcome back to Weekly Fix! I’m Tim Cooke and each week on GolfChannel.com we’re taking a closer look at your swings in hopes of helping you play better golf.

This week, we’re going to analyze Amy’s golf swing.

Amy is a beginner who has only been playing golf for about two months now, and she would like some swing tips to help her be more consistent.

So in our video this week, were going to focus on Amys setup position and what she can do to better understand and practice what the proper impact and finish feel like.

Popular golf instruction tips: Setup | Full Swing | Power | Accuracy

In summary, some of the ideas I would suggest that everyone can take away from this week’s analysis would include the following:

• At setup, you’d like to have a club shaft to spine relationship of about 90 degrees, and if your arms hang naturally and the butt end of the club points through your belt line, there’s a good chance that you’ll be close to that desired 90-degree number.

• Impact position is something that you can practice, and one great feel that you want to have is that your lead arm (left arm for a right-handed player) is extended or ‘long’ as you strike the ball.

• To feel that you’re really swinging the club through to the finish, you want to feel your weight push forward toward the target and get good extension in your trail arm (right arm for a right-handed player) post impact.

That’s it for this week’s edition of Weekly Fix. Keep sending us your videos at WeeklyFix@GolfChannel.com, and we’ll be back with a new edition right here next week.
