Hi, I’m Tim Cooke, and welcome back to Weekly Fix, where we’re taking a closer look at your swings each week here on GolfChannel.com.
This week, we’re going to take a look at Erik’s swing.
Erik believes that his hip action, or lack thereof, in his golf swing is leading to a lack of power and a ball flight that’s too high.
And he’s actually dead on, so in our video this week, we’ll discuss what Erik can do to improve his hip action in the backswing and the downswing, and I think some of these ideas will be of value to any golfer.
Popular golf instruction tips: Setup | Full Swing | Power | Accuracy
In summary this week, the tips I would suggest that everyone take away from this analysis would include the following:
• At address, you want your belt line and hips to be level or if anything the lead hip will be slightly higher than the trail hip. If your trail hip is slightly higher at setup, you’ll have trouble rotating your hips in the backswing and downswing.
• If on the downswing you tuck your pelvis and hips underneath you, a problem for many amateur golfers, you will most likely have to resort to a scooping action to hit the ball, which leads to shots that are hit too high and lack distance as loft is being added to the club at impact.
• In addition to keeping your hips and pelvis back on the downswing, you also want to strive for the following sequence with your hips coming down: lateral shift, then rotation, then extension.
