AUGUSTA, Ga. – A quick glance at course statistics from Round 2 of the Masters shows what’s fairly obvious – the front nine is a half-shot easier than the back nine. The two most difficult holes continue to be within Amen Corner, with the par-4 11th playing the most difficult and the par-3 12th playing the second most difficult.
Here is a breakdown of more course statistics through two rounds:
• Speaking of the 11th hole, there have only been five birdies there so far, but there have been 13 double bogeys. The stroke average on the hole is 4.531.

• There have been four “others” on the 12th hole, but none more devastating than Phil Mickelson’s triple bogey there Friday. It’s easy to make a triple on the hole, but rarely does it happen when failing to hit a ball in the water. Mickelson hit his tee shot into the front bunker, his second into the back bunker, his third into the front bunker, then failed to get up and down. He missed the cut by one shot.
• The par 5s continue to be the four easiest holes on the course. The eighth is the easiest, playing to an average of 4.737.
• Even though the eighth is the easiest, it has not produced the most birdies this week. The 13th and 15th holes have both allowed 76 birdies and four eagles.
• The scoring average is 74.278. The front nine is 36.892, the back nine is 37.387.
