NASSAU, Bahamas – After struggling for much of the week, Justin Rose closed his year with a course-record 62 on Sunday at the Hero World Challenge.
Rose, who moved to Albany Golf Club about a year and a half ago, began the final round 14 strokes out of the lead and said the chance to set the course record was his primary focus on Sunday.
“That’s all I wanted today,” said Rose, who birdied five of his first eight holes. “I was very aware of trying to get to 10 [under]. I saw Rickie [Fowler] going and I thought maybe I’ll have the course record for 30 minutes unless I make this putt [at No. 17].”
Rose, who tied for 13th in the 18-man field, made the putt at the 17th for birdie, and ended up with the course record when Fowler faded late.

A group of Rose’s childhood friends from England were at the World Challenge and they planned to spend the next few days relaxing and playing golf at Albany.
“We’ll have some fun. They play me off a plus-10 [handicap], so I played to my handicap today,” laughed Rose, who said he’d probably only played five 18-hole rounds at Albany before this week.
