Patrick Reed will begin his first PGA Tour title defense alongside a pair of former event champions this week at the Wyndham Championship.

Reed, who claimed his maiden Tour title last year at Sedgefield in a sudden-death playoff over Jordan Spieth, will play the first two rounds alongside 2011 winner Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker, who won in 2007 at Forest Oaks. The trio will begin at 12:55 p.m. ET Thursday off the first tee, followed by a 7:40 a.m. start off the 10th tee in Round 2.

Since his breakthrough win, Reed has added two more victories, capturing the Humana Challenge and WGC-Cadillac Championship earlier this season. He has locked up a spot on his first Ryder Cup team, while Simpson and Snedeker are among the high-profile players who will be in need of a selection from U.S. captain Tom Watson in order to make the trip to Scotland.

Other notable first-round groups in Greensboro include (all times ET):

7:30 a.m. (No. 10 tee): Hideki Matsuyama, Billy Horschel, Nick Watney

7:40 a.m. (No. 10 tee): Bill Haas, Davis Love III, Fred Couples

7:40 a.m. (No. 1 tee): Tim Clark, Chesson Hadley, Boo Weekley

12:45 p.m. (No. 1 tee): Ernie Els, Mike Weir, Charles Howell III
