Rory McIlroy gave Masters fans an early reason to cheer Monday when he made a hole-in-one during a practice round at Augusta National.
McIlroy aced the 16th hole with a 7-iron from 170 yards, according to a Reuters report.
The ace came at a fortuitous time, too, closing out a 3-and-2 win over England’s Chris Wood.
“I don’t think I have ever heard a roar that large during a practice round,” McIlroy told reporters.
