LANCASTER, Pa. – The LPGA issued a statement Tuesday making it clear the organization would rather the Ricoh Women’s British Open not be played at Trump Turnberry next month.
Donald Trump’s controversial remarks about Mexican immigration put golf’s governing bodies in difficult positions in regards to their relationships with Trump. The Ricoh Women’s British Open is scheduled to be played at Trump Turnberry July 30-Aug. 2.
The Ricoh Women’s British Open is conducted by the Ladies Golf Union and co-sanctioned by the LPGA.

The LPGA released this statement Tuesday at the U.S. Women’s Open:
“At the current time, plans are to continue to stage the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Turnberry. With just three weeks until the championship, a change in venue for this prestigious major simply isn’t feasible without significantly diminishing the event.
“By no means, however, does this decision suggest support for Mr. Trump’s comments.
“The LPGA will continue its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the game of golf as it has done for the last 65 years.”
