Stanford’s starting lineup next fall could feature two McNealys.
The Cardinal announced Monday that Dakota McNealy – the brother of reigning NCAA player of the year Maverick – will join the men’s golf team next fall.
The older McNealy, who grew up less than a half hour from Stanford’s campus and was lightly recruited as a junior, has blossomed into the top college player in the country. He won six times last season and already has three titles at the season’s halfway point.
Like his older brother, Dakota is a multi-sport athlete who rarely competed outside of California and has played more hockey than golf throughout high school. According to Golfweek’s rankings, he is the 1076th-ranked junior in the country.
“He wants to improve over the next year to make the traveling squad,” Maverick McNealy said Monday, “but Stanford is the best place in the world to do so and he has tremendous upside and talent. I think we’ll see him come down the learning and experience curve very quickly. I’m looking forward to having him on the team with me for my senior year.”
In a release announcing the team’s signee, Stanford coach Conrad Ray described Dakota McNealy as “amazing in the classroom, first and foremost, but also a tremendous athlete.”
