Weather Cancels First Round of Futures Tour Event

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. -- Julie Turner’s first-round elation was short-lived today when the CIGNA Chip In For A Cure Futures Golf Classic was washed out by torrential rain. Playing in one of the morning rounds, Turner slogged through the morning’s lighter drizzle, posting a one-under-par score of 71 at Gillette Ridge Golf Club.

But once a heavy downpour set in around 1 p.m., dumping more than two inches of rain on the course, play was suspended at 1:43 p.m. The round was canceled by 4:45 p.m., turning this weeks event into a 36-hole tournament.

‘I’m disappointed, to say the least,’ said Turner of Skaneateles, N.Y., who carded three birdies and two bogeys in her round. ‘We spent the whole day out there playing in the rain and I have a legitimate score. It’s just frustrating.’
