As more golfers have turned to minimalist shoes built in the so-called “barefoot” style, footwear manufacturers have worked hard to satisfy demand in that realm. Witness the newly released Faas Lite and Faas Lite Mesh from Puma Golf.
Company officials describe the Faas Lite Mesh, which weighs a feathery 6.5 ounces, as the lightest shoe in the game. That’s largely a result of FaasFoam+, a proprietary blend of foam and rubber used in the product construction, as well as the mesh itself.
A zero heel-to-toe drop is designed to give players the barefoot feeling that is so popular today, and strategically placed corrugated flex grooves are made to move more naturally with the foot. In addition, these shoes boast what Puma technicians call SmartQuill traction technology that utilizes directional grip elements to bolster ground contact for improved traction and stability.
Evertrack carbon rubber in the forefoot and heel is intended to promote durability, while an OrthoLite sock liner is designed to enhance comfort and fit.
As for the Faas Lite, it is just a bit heavier, at 8.7 ounces. But that is primarily because it is a waterproof shoe, using microfiber leather with stormCell technology to keep things dry and light. As is the case with the Faas Lite Mesh, the Faas Lite features zero heel-to-toe drop, corrugated flex grooves and SmartQuill traction.
Both shoes boast bold colorways, with the Faas Lite Mesh available in Brilliant Blue/Limeade, Vibrant Orange/White and White/Black, while the Faas Lite comes in White/Vibrant Orange, White/Black/Brilliant Blue and Black/Castle Rock.
In addition, Puma is releasing a limited edition version, dubbed the Faas Lite Splatter, which takes its inspiration from Rickie Fowler’s “Golf Art” and features paint splatter designs on a white outsole with an orange form stripe.
