Scottie Scheffler came from behind to win the 2026 Tour Championship and FedExCup title on Sunday, beating second and third round leader Viktor Hovland by three strokes.
“I think days like today are really fun,” Scheffler said. “Coming from behind and being able to win tournaments is a really cool feeling.”
With his second win at East Lake Golf Club, Scheffler joins Tiger Woods (2007, ’09) and Rory McIlroy (2016, ’19, ’22) as the only players with multiple FedExCup titles. He also passed Woods on the Tour’s career money list with his $10 million prize, bringing his career earnings to over $130 million.
Scheffler started the day three strokes back from Hovland. Paired with Chris Gotterup in the antepenultimate group, the 30-year-old birdied two of the first four holes, including a near-ace on the par-3 second. He bogeyed the par-4 seventh but negated it with a birdie on the par-4 eighth. He was 2 under at the turn and picked up two more strokes on the back nine, finishing the day with a 4-under 66 and at 16 under overall.
This is Scheffler’s 22nd Tour win and third this season, following wins at the American Express and FedEx St. Jude Championship.
And this is a down year for the world No. 1.
After a nine-win season in 2024 (seven Tour events) and a six-win season in 2025, three wins is a slump, but in the past few weeks, Scheffler has reasserted his position as the best player in the world.
Despite no major wins this season, he’s still the frontrunner for the PGA Tour Player of the Year award after five runners-up and finishing outside the top 15 only twice in 20 starts.
Hovland and Ryan Gerard, the final pairing, both went 2 over on the day to finish second and third, respectively. Only Robert MacIntyre (even) and Gary Woodland (2 over) finished the week at or over par of the 30 men in the field.
Gerard is catching a red eye to Switzerland on Sunday night as he plans to play in the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour this week.
“Full transparency, if I get a Presidents Cup spot, I’d love to kind of roll into there being a little bit more prepared,” Gerard said after the final round. “I like to play a lot of golf. And if I don’t, I’ll probably just stay over there and play Wentworth and the France Open after that.”
The Presidents Cup is set for September 22-27 at Medinah Country Club in Illinois. While the automatic selections are set, with Scheffler leading the U.S. team, six more captain’s picks will be announced Tuesday.
