3yMarcus Hillegkilde impressed the home crowd with an 8-under 63 in round one of the Made in HimmerLand, just one shot off the torrid pace set by Ross McGowan.

The 25-year Dane had some shoulder issues earlier in the year but got those sorted out before he went overseas to post back-to-back top 15s in PGA TOUR events. More recently, he arrives with T4 and T29 in his two lead-in starts. He stayed locked in today with 12-of-14 fairways his and 17 GIR, giving himself eight scoring chances from inside of 10 feet. Helligkilde also rolled in a 15-footer for eagle at the par-5 fifth. “I love this place, HimmerLand, such a great atmosphere... I would say 90 percent of the people following me today, I know them. I’m not a superstar (yet) like the twins (Hojgaards) so it’s nice to have people come out and cheer me on.” The youngster started the week at 94th in the DP World Tour Rankings and could make a big move if he keeps his foot on the gas for three more days.

3yMaking his PGA TOUR debut, World No. 146 Marcus Helligkilde walked off with birdie from 28'8" for a 6-under 34-32=66 in R4 of the opposite-field Barbasol to wrap on 17-under 271, up 17 spots to T8 with play winding down.

The 25-year-old, who arrived off a T46 at last week’s Irish Open, was the leading money winner on the Challenge Tour in 2021, buoyed by three wins, which earned him the promotion to the DP World Tour for 2022. After opening with 70-69, he was one of 20 players to make the cut (T64) on the number, but heads to this coming week’s opposite-field Barracuda with the top 10 after wrapping with a pair of 66s. For the week, the Dane tallied two eagles and 18 birdies versus five bogeys, and currently ranks 9th SG: Tee-to-Green (7.583) and 39th SG: Putting (1.211), highlighted by a 1.276 SGP in R4.

4yMarcus Helligkilde is making the leap to the DP World Tour this season and getting his campaign started this week at the Joburg Open.

The 25-year-old Dane went 16-for-19 on the Challenge Tour last season to finish first in the Challenge Tour Rankings at the end of the Rolex Grand Final. That included three wins and another three runner-up finishes. During the year, he did pop up to the big stage twice and posted top 25s in both appearances (T25 at the Made in HimmerLand and T12 at the Dutch Open). His breakout 2021 has resulted in him climbing to 80th in the Official World Golf Ranking, making him a popular selection in fantasy and betting circles this week.
