Wilson picked up his first win on tour by beating the Ryder Cup captain, who would have qualified for the team with a win. This was probably Lehman’s final chance to make the team, but he couldn’t get his first win since Phoenix in 2000. Wilson had four top-10 finishes this year coming in, but had not managed better than a seventh-place at the Nissan.

No reason as to why, but he’s replaced in field by Mike Heinen.

Wilson has been sidelined since calling it quits after 13 holes of the Wyndham Championship due to a wrist injury. This will be his ninth consecutive start at the Timberlake, but he’s yet to post a top 10 at the event. At 143rd in earnings, expect to see him quite a bit in the Fall Series.

The Hawaiian was a late withdrawal on Wednesday due to a back injury. He’s currently 143rd on the money list, but figures to tumble a couple of spots once the Timberlake is in the books. Wilson shared 13th place at last year’s Frys.com at CordeValle.

The other shoe drops for the third consecutive week. He pulled out early from the Timberlake due to a back injury, and then withdrew early from last week’s Frys.com Open as well. Due to the time off, he’s slipped six spots on the money list to his current position at 149th.

Wilson hasn’t played on the PGA TOUR since withdrawing during his opening round of the Wyndham Championship last August with a wrist injury. He committed to and then withdrew early from three events in the Fall Series before settling for a share of 93rd place in the final stage of Q School. Today’s decision leaves him with four starts on his Minor Medical Extension to earn $266,852 and a promotion into the Major Medical category.

The 42-year-old was limited to 22 starts in 2011 due to wrist and back injuries. (You may recall him entering and then withdrawing early from each of the first three events of the Fall Series.) If he earns $266,852 on the medical, he will be elevated to the Major Medical category. He needs to bank just $10,629 to secure conditional status. Wilson finished 151st on the money list last year.

Wilson entered and withdrew early from three events in the Fall Series due to what was reported as a back injury. His last start anywhere resulted in a withdrawal after 13 holes of the Wyndham Championship in August due to a sore wrist. At Bear Creek thus far, he’s buried an eagle and eight birdies and sits two strokes outside the number with two rounds to play. The low 19 and ties will advance to the final stage in two weeks. Wilson is currently T28.

He’s made it 6-for-6 in early withdrawals this year. He still has four starts via a Minor Medical Extension if he wants them. Jay Delsing also withdrew as an alternate.
