3yWill Mackenzie has withdrawn his name from the field at the 3M Open, and he’ll be replaced by Daniel Chopra.

The 47-year-old Mackenzie has made just two PGA Tour starts this season, missing the cut in Puerto Rico and withdrawing from the recent Barbasol Open with an undisclosed injury. The two-time Tour winner was the latest in several WDs on Tuesday, which included Duffy Waldorf, Frank Lickliter, Eric Axley and Jonathan Kaye. Alternate Freddie Jacobson will fill the open spot. For Chopra, he’s had just one previous PGA Tour start this season, missing the cut at the Bermuda Championship. The 48-year-old Swede has made 10 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour, making just one cut (T-74, AdventHealth Championship).

3yUpdated with Eric Axley: Germany’s Stephan Jaeger, ranked No. 170 in the OWGR, has withdrawn his name from the field prior to the start of the Corales Puntacana Championship and ultimately will be replaced in the field by alternate Eric Axley.

When the 32-year-old German dropped out of the event, he was first replaced by Andres Romero, but Romero and multiple other alternates passed on the spot due to the international travel. Jaeger had made three previous appearances at Corales, where he’s never missed the cut and recorded a best finish of T-26 in 2019. This week will mark the second PGA Tour appearance in 2022 for Axley, who missed the cut earlier this month in Puerto Rico. He’s also missed the cut in all four Korn Ferry Tour starts this season.

5yBronson Burgoon will remain sidelined as he has withdrawn from the field ahead of this week’s Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. He and his wife, Katy, welcomed their daughter, Rory, into the world last Thursday.

Burgoon was a pre-tourney WD ahead of the lid-lifting Safeway Open and he’s holding off a bit longer after enjoying the welcomed addition to his family last week. His wife shared the news on social media. Gamers should remove the Texan from all weekly lineups but feel confident in re-investing when he returns to play, given this is not injury-related. Eric Axley is the next alternate in line and will snag his spot in the field.

7yEric Axley shot 1-under-par 71 in the Monday qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open, four strokes too high to earn an exemption into the tournament proper.

The one-time PGA TOUR winner hasn’t posted a top 25 on the circuit in his last 45 starts dating back to September 2008. He didn’t cash in either of his starts last year. Other notables that failed to qualify today include Bubba Dickerson (72), David Morland IV (72), Kevin Tway (72), John Peterson (73), Ted Purdy (74), Andrew Giuliani (75) and Mike Van Sickle (76).

7yEric Axley was added to the published field of this week’s True South Classic.

The lefty started the week no higher than 15th alternate. He gained entry thanks to two withdrawals today. While he’s competed in 142 PGA TOUR events, his victory at the 2006 Texas Open still accounts for over 26 percent of his career earnings. He missed the cut in San Antonio in his only previous appearance this season. Axley shot a 68 in the open qualifier on Monday, three strokes too high to force a playoff for the final of four berths.

7yEric Axley has been added to the published field of this week’s Reno-Tahoe Open.

Axley started the week no higher than 31st alternate, yet earned a berth on merit when Jim McGovern passed on a spot this morning. The lefty is 1-for-2 on the PGA TOUR this year with a T49 at the True South Classic two weeks ago.

7yEric Axley turned in a bogey-free, 6-under-par 66 at today’s four-spotter for the Puerto Rico Open, earning a berth into the tournament proper.

The one-time PGA TOUR winner scattered six birdies on the River Course at Rio Mar Beach Resort in Rio Grande to share runner-up honors with Garrett Osborn (1 eagle, 7 birdies, 3 bogeys) and John Stoltz (1 eagle, 4 birdies; all on holes 11-16). Jon Curran was the medalist with an 8-under 64 that included nine birdies and one bogey. The field at Trump International Golf Club is now complete at 132.

7yEric Axley withdrew from the Puerto Rico Open during his second round due to a hand injury, according to Golf Digest’s Max Adler on Twitter.

The lefty completed 10 holes today in 5-over-par. He was 9-over through 28 holes and facing terrible odds to survive the cut anyway. Because he has Past Champion status on the PGA TOUR, we’ll add him to our Injury Report, but the one-time winner has no fantasy value.

7ySince withdrawing from the Puerto Rico Open in early March with a hand injury, Eric Axley has been limited to one start on the Web.com Tour.

The lefty shared 49th place at last week’s South Georgia Classic, but he’s fallen short in a pair of open qualifiers on the PGA TOUR (Valero Texas Open, Wells Fargo Championship).

7yEric Axley turned in a 2-under-par 34-35=69 at The Resort at Glade Springs’ Cobb Course in today’s open qualifier for The Greenbrier Classic, four strokes outside the number necessary to join the playoff for the final two tee times into the tournament proper.

Axley tied for 24th today. He has status on the PGA TOUR as a Past Champion, but he’s just 0-for-1 with a withdrawal in Puerto Rico this season. He’s cashed in two of his four starts on the Web.com Tour and has made a couple of starts on the NGA Tour.
