7yDeane Pappas shot a 6-under-par 66 at Fire Ridge GC in Grafton, Wisconsin to medal at today’s four-spot qualifier for this week’s U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

Pappas buried seven birdies, including six on the back nine at Fire Ridge. Tim Cantwell, Jr. was bogey-free and finished one stroke back, while Mark Hensby carded a 68 to grab the third spot. J.T. Kohut (69) earned the final tee time at Brown Deer Park after surviving a 10-for-1 playoff that included former PGA Tour members Dicky Pride, Tom Byrum, Brandt Jobe, Danny Briggs and David Morland IV. Notables that failed to advance include Jerry Smith (70), Jim Carter (71), Tom Johnson (72), Craig Kanada (73), J.L. Lewis (74), Dick Mast (74) and David Gossett (75).

7yDeane Pappas crafted a 6-under-par 70 in the opening round of the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

Pappas drained seven birdies on the strength on a tidy 25 putts. The Monday qualifier and former PGA Tour member will be playing Friday afternoon for his first paycheck against the big boys since 2004.

7yDeane Pappas was the medalist in qualifying on Monday for the John Deere Classic.

Pappas carded a 65 at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Illinois and earned medalist honors by two strokes. He has been playing on the Nationwide Tour this season with no earnings this year and his best finish at the John Deere Classic is a T-53 in 2003. Other Monday qualifiers were Brian Carroll of Crystal Lake, IL, Chad Proehl of Urbandale, IA and JT Kohut of Simi Valley, CA. All three earned spots in the John Deere after a one hole playoff in which Chris Naegel was the odd man out.

7yDeane Pappas earned a spot in the field of the Turning Stone Resort Championship, when he carded a round of 70 in Monday qualifying.

This is the third time that Pappas has Monday qualified this year. His lone highlight of 2008 was an opening 64 in Milwaukee before fading to a T-50 finish. He did not play in the inaugural Turning Stone last year.
