7yCharlie Wi spun a 7-under-par 31-33=64 in his opening round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, finishing one back of the clubhouse lead.

Wi’s solo second at Colonial in May accounts for over 63 percent of his season’s earnings. It’s his only top-15 finish of the year, which isn’t unusual given that he’s a proven horse-for-course pro. What is odd is today’s effort at TPC Summerlin, where he hit 14 greens and took only 25 putts. It just isn’t the kind of track on which you’d expect a guy arguably best known for his putting to thrive. Five of his eight birdies disappeared from beyond 12 feet, including a pitch-in from 14 yards in the rough at the 14th hole. The other four conversions were putts, the longest of which measuring 16'8" at the seventh hole. Wi also strung together five straight beginning at the 13th hole.

7yCharlie Wi backed up his opening 64 with a 5-under-par 35-32=67 in his second round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, reaching the midpoint in 12-under 132, good for a share of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

Wi buried another six birdies today, including conversions of 30'1", 14'1" and 24'7" at the fourth, ninth and 11th holes, respectively. Overall, he’s hit 27 greens and required only 51 putts. He’s also birdied all three of the par 5s in both rounds.

7yWithin an hour before Jim Renner posted a course-record 62, Charlie Wi crafted a 7-under-par 32-32=64 in his third round of the Frys.com Open, tying the old course record at CordeValle.

Wi is the only representative of the nearby University of California at Berkeley in the field this week, so it’s fitting that his name was connected to the low round at CordeValle even for a few minutes. He finished T52 last year but shot a 65 in the second round. Today he hit 14 greens and buried eight birdies to finish with a share of the 54-hole clubhouse lead at 10-under 203. Among his notable birdie conversions were a six-yarder from just off the green at the 10th hole and a putt that disappeared from 25'9" at the 16th.

7yCharlie Wi suffered a four-putt on the par-4 18th en route to posting a one-over-par 36-37=73 in the third round of THE PLAYERS.

After opening with 10 pars, Wi swallowed his first bogey of the day at the par-5 11th. He bounced back with a birdie on the 12th, and added another at the 16th before closing with a four-putt double bogey on the 18th. It was a rather unimpressive ball-striking round, as he split just 7 (of 14) fairways and landed a meager 10 GIR. Surprisingly, the putter failed him as well him as he took 29 putts to the tune of a 2.00 putting average. He enters the final round a 5-under 211.

7yCharlie Wi crafted a 6-under-par 34-32=66 in his opening round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational to establish a two-stroke clubhouse lead.

Four days ago, Wi finished last of 77 that completed four rounds of the Transitions thanks primarily to a 13 he swallowed on the par-5 fifth hole at Copperhead. Illustrating the proper mindset of a touring pro, he turned the page and blistered Bay Hill today for seven birdies, four of which disappearing from beyond 10 feet. This included rolls of 35'4" and 31'6" at the sixth and 14th holes, respectively, as well as a seven-yarder from the fringe at the seventh. You don’t need to be reminded that he’s winless in 166 career PGA TOUR starts entering this week.

7yCharlie Wi posted a 3-under-par 34-34=68 in his opening round of the RBC Heritage, finishing one stroke back of the overnight tri-leaders.

Wi hit 10 greens in regulation and carded just one bogey thanks to an efficient 24 putts. He poured in four birdies, including a conversion from 12'6" at the ninth hole. But his higlight was a hole-out from a greenside bunker 19 yards out at the seventh.

7yAt 6-under-par 71-67=138, Charlie Wi is the early 36-hole clubhouse leader at THE PLAYERS.

Zero chance this holds up as the overnight lead, but Wi was the first to post the number. He’s split only 12 (of 28) fairways and hit only 21 greens in regulation, but he’s limited the damage to three bogeys. Today’s loop of TPC Sawgrass included seven birdies, four of which from beyond 10 feet. His highlights were birdie conversions of 18'6" and 15'7" at the eighth and ninth holes, respectively. Wi is 2-for-4 at this event with no top 40, but he established a personal low today in 14 career rounds at the host track.

7yCharlie Wi bounced back from a rocky start to his final round to card a 1-under 37-34=71 and tie for fourth at the Valero Texas Open.

Wi was 3-over through four holes, but navigated his final 14 holes at the TPC San Antonio in 4-under fashion with five birdies and a lone bogey. He ends the week at 5-under-par 283 for his second top four of the year. He was tied for second this week with 19 birdies. He is not in the field for this week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

7yCharlie Wi found a rare under-par round late in the day at the Valero Texas Open with a third-round 1-under 37-34=71.

Wi had a chance to post a bit lower, but his approach at the par-5 18th landed in the creek guarding the front of the green and kicked off a rock and back into the fairway. He was unable to take advantage of that break and get up and down for par, as his fourth shot hit the pin and scurried 24'3" away. As it stands, he will enter the final round at 4-under 212. Per usual, the strength of his round was the putter, as he needed just 25 putts to circle the TPC San Antonio to the tune of a 1.714 putting average. He struggled with the irons, only finding seven GIR.

7yCharlie Wi entered the third round co-leading with Tiger Woods, but a 4-over 38-38=76 left him in a tie for seventh at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Wi opened the day with bogeys on his first three holes and ended the day with five bogeys to a single birdie. He is 6-under 66-68-76=210 for the tournament. Wi’s troubles in the third round were across the board as he only hit seven (of 14) fairways, eight GIR and only managed a putting average of 2.00.
