Cardinals waived/released TE Gerald Christian, RB/WR Amir Carlise, OG Jake Bernstein, OT Clay DeBord, LS Daniel Dillon, DT Iosia Iosia, CB Asa Jackson, WR Franky Okafor, CB Shaun Prater, P Garrett Swanson, and S Ty Zimmerman.
These are the Cardinals’ first cuts. Christian was the 2015 draft’s Mr. Irrelevant. He spent his entire first NFL season on injured reserve (knee).
  • FA Tight End #82
Bills waived/released TE Gerald Christian, LS Garrison Sanborn, and S Phillip Thomas.
These moves are in addition to the more notable cuts of CB Nickell Robey-Coleman and K Dan Carpenter. A seventh-round pick of the Cardinals in 2015, Christian appeared in three games for the Bills last season. Getting cut at this point is not a great sign for his future.
  • FA Tight End #82
Cardinals placed TE Gerald Christian (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
This year’s Mr. Irrelevant, Christian went down in the preseason finale. He wasn’t more than a practice squad option. Darren Fells, Jermaine Gresham, and Troy Niklas are Arizona’s top three tight ends.
  • FA Tight End #82
Cardinals selected Louisville TE Gerald Christian with the No. 256 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.
Meet this year’s Mr. Irrelevant. Christian (6'3/244) spent two seasons at Louisville after transferring from Florida, amassing 64 career catches for 882 yards (13.8 YPR) and ten TDs. He managed a 4.87 forty at the Combine and is tight in the hips, limiting his route-running ability. Christian does have soft, big (10 3/4") hands and can make contested catches. As is typically the case with young tight ends, Christian needs work as a blocker, but flashes toughness to become proficient in that aspect. He likely has the ceiling of a No. 2 tight end in the pros.
