Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Freddy Galvis has signed a two-year contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Heyman says that Galvis will make $7.4 million plus incentives, so you can understand why he made the decision to head overseas. The 32-year-old shortstop slashed .242/.302/.407 with 14 long balls and 40 RBI in 394 plate appearances with the Orioles and Phillies during the 2021 season.

  • INT Shortstop #8
According to Yahoo Japan, Freddy Galvis is expected to sign a contract with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Given the current lockout, Galvis certainly won’t be the only unsigned MLB veteran who pursues opportunities overseas. The switch-hitting 32-year-old shortstop hit .242/.302/.407 with 14 homers and 40 RBI in 394 plate appearances between the Orioles and Phillies during the 2021 campaign.

  • INT Shortstop #8
Freddy Galvis went 2-for-4 and scored a run as the Phillies fell to the Mets on Sunday night.
Galvis reached on an infield single with one out in the fifth inning, then came around to score the Phillies second run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bryce Harper. With the two-hit attack, the 31-year-old middle infielder is now hitting .245/.304/.394 with 13 homers, 39 RBI and one stolen base in 94 games on the year.

  • FA Shortstop #9
Jean Segura is in the Phillies’ lineup Monday against the Brewers.
Segura sat Sunday as Freddy Galvis played second base, but he’ll bat second Monday against Brandon Woodruff. Galvis is at third base Monday while Brad Miller plays first and J.T. Realmuto catches Zack Wheeler.

  • INT Shortstop #8
Freddy Galvis drilled a two-run homer on Sunday in the Phillies’ win over the Marlins.
Galvis belted a two-run homer off righty Elieser Hernandez in the fourth inning. He also scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning of the extra-inning affair. He’s gone deep twice in his last three games.

  • INT Shortstop #8
Freddy Galvis homered and doubled as the Phillies’ leadoff man Friday against the Marlins.
While we certainly wouldn’t recommend leading Galvis off with any frequency, he’s the Philies’ best option at shortstop right now. He played third base tonight, though he did move to shortstop late in the game.

  • INT Shortstop #8
Freddy Galvis went 1-for-3 with three RBI on Sunday, lifting the Phillies to a 7-4 victory over the Diamondbacks in the finale of a four-game series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Galvis padded the Phillies’ early lead with a sacrifice fly in the opening frame and also added a two-run single to center field off lefty Madison Bumgarner in the fifth inning. The 31-year-old middle infielder has just two hits in 14 at-bats across five games since returning to Philadelphia.

  • INT Shortstop #8
Phillies activated INF Freddy Galvis from the 10-day injured list.
Galvis is finally over the right quad strain that sent him to the IL back in late June, when he was still a member of the Orioles. He got traded to the Phillies at the July 30 deadline and will presumably fill a utility infield role for them down the stretch.

  • INT Shortstop #8
Phillies acquired INF Freddy Galvis and cash considerations from the Orioles for RHP Tyler Burch.
Galvis returned to the team that he broke into the big leagues with in 2012. He has hit .249/.306/.414 with nine homers and 26 RBI with the Orioles this season. He brings with him a terrific glove and some pop from both sides of the plate, which should make him a useful commodity on the Phillies bench.

  • INT Shortstop #8
Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Phillies have agreed to a deal to acquire Freddy Galvis from the Orioles.
Galvis, 31, spent the first six years of his big league career with the Phillies from 2012-2017. He’s currently on the injured list with a right quad strain but is expected to return any day now. In 72 games with the Orioles this season, he hit .249/.306/.414 with nine long balls and 26 RBI. He’ll add depth to the Phillies bench.
