From the late wave and beginning on 10 tee, World No. 158 Adam Svensson twirled a 10-under 30-32=62 in R1 of the opposite-field Barbasol Championship, good for a 2-shot lead over DP World Tour members Ricardo Gouveia and Robin Roussel.
This is the 28-year-old second 18-hole lead/co-lead in 59 events and his second lead/co-lead after any round in his 168th career lap. The other came after R1 of the Sony Open during his rookie campaign in 2019, where he opened with a still-career-tying-low, bogey-free 9-under 61 to lead by one before fading to T43 (61-74-70-68). On 12 (of 14) fairways and 15 greens in regulation, he posted 1.750 SG: Off-the-Tee, 4.612 SG: Approach, -0.687 SG: Around, and 2.201 SG: Putting with 27 total putts. The Canadian squared one bogey-4 at hole 13 (3-putt from 37'10"), outflanked by two eagle-3s at 15 (from 23'0") and 8 (31'3"), and seven birdies at 11, 12, 17, 1, 4, 5, and 6, two of the latter from between 10 and 12 feet. He arrived 98th in the FedExCup standings with six top 25s in 26 events, three straight, and two top 10s, including a career-best T7 at the 2022 Sony, where he was T9 after 18 holes (64-67-65-67).
