Jake McLeod was trying to stay cool after posting a 4-under-par 35-33=68 at the Beach Course in round two of the Vic Open which left him on 11-under 133, T3 and just three blows back of leader Robin Sciot-Siegrist.
The Aussie was second at 13th Beach Golf Links in 2017 but missed the cut when the tournament debuted as a European Tour event last year. After three missed cuts on the bounce to end 2019 he was pleased with this effort. “First tournament of the year for me,” he said. “I’m just looking to dust off the cobwebs and see if I can make it until Sunday.” He opened Friday with two bogeys at the first and second, but then improved, dropping no more shots and adding birdies at the fourth, seventh, ninth, 11th, 15th and 18th. “I sort of kept it pretty clean on the card, which was nice,” he said. “Wasn’t quite as good as yesterday. I don’t know, I just sort of like the course. Get out there and don’t have to think too much about it and just give it a rip and see how we go.”
