Dolphins selected Texas QB Quinn Ewers with the No. 231 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Ewers (6’2/214) was the No. 1 ranked quarterback prospect when he enrolled at Ohio State as a member of the 2021 recruiting class. He spent his freshman year playing behind C.J. Stroud and left for Texas for the 2022 season to avoid playing behind Stroud for a second consecutive season. He was immediately handed the starting job with the Longhorns and threw for 2,174-14-6 in his first year at the helm while being limited to 10 games due to injury. Ewers tapped into his potential a bit more during the 2023 season, throwing for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions while completing 69 percent of his passes and leading the Longhorns to a 12-2 record. He built on that success with a 3,469-yard, 31-touchdown, 12-interception line last season. When he’s at his best, the talent that made him the No. 1 recruit in his class is evident, but Ewers has struggled with consistency throughout his career while being prone to turnovers and sacks. He owns a 21.8 pressure-to-sack rate for his career – a concerning total, and threw 24 picks in his career to go along with 20 fumbles. He fumbled 10 times in 2024 alone, per PFF. Ewers’ past pedigree and positive game tape will draw plenty of hype as a potential sleeper of the class once he finds a new home. People won’t be quick to forget the impressive road wins he picked up against Alabama in 2023 and Michigan in 2024 when making the case for his ceiling. However, he’ll have plenty of adjusting to make at the pro level, particularly when it comes to reading defenses, getting around pressure, and learning how to avoid sacks. The landing spot in Miami will make Ewers’ transition to the pros much smoother. He gets a quarterback-friendly scheme with Mike McDaniel’s offense and will eventually back up quarterback with similar physical limitations in Tua Tagovailoa. He will compete with Zach Wilson for the QB2 gig during training camp.

The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain believes Bears WR Rome Odunze could “take off” in 2025.
The steady drumbeat for Odunze — a former top-10 pick — continues as the Bears ready for training camp. Head coach Ben Johson said in May that he was “extremely impressed” with Odunze following a disappointing rookie campaign that saw him catch 54 passes for 734 yards and three touchdowns. Thanks to erratic play from Caleb Williams, Odunze was among the least efficient wideouts in the game last season. He was 13th in air yards — leading all Chicago pass catchers — but 42nd in receiving yards. “If Odunze didn’t meet outside expectations, it’s not because he was dropping passes or running poor routes,” Fishbain said. “With a better scheme and improved quarterback play, he should take off in Year 2.” Odunze will have to compete for targets with DJ Moore and incoming rookie Luther Burden.
Aiyuk may start 2025 season on PUP list
Patrick Daugherty gives an update on Brandon Aiyuk's potential lack of availability to start the 2025 season and where fantasy managers could look to if the 49ers wide receiver misses some time.
  • CBS Sports’ Bud Elliot reports Bengals EDGE Shemar Stewart believes he can return to college football in 2025.
It’s the latest in a truly bizarre situation for Stewart, the 17th selection in the 2025 draft who has held out of offseason activities amid a lingering contract dispute. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said in June that Cincinnati’s rookie deal offer to Stewart “did not provide the same level of protection as [what] other teams give their rookies.” Stewart has reportedly attended offseason workouts with his former Texas A&M mates and believes there’s a path for him to return to the college level. the Bengals would receive no compensation for Stewart not signing with their team if they can’t get a deal done this year. Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda Stewart said Stewart — if he does not sign his rookie deal with the Bengals — would be “free to enter the 2026 draft and would be eligible to be picked by any team other than Cincinnati.” The Stewart saga will continue into training camp, and likely beyond.
  • LAC Running Back #22
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Chargers RB Najee Harris is expected to be back on the field “sooner rather than later.”
Speaking on The Insiders on NFL Network, Rapoport relayed words from Harris’ agent that backed up previous reports that said the eye injury sustained by the veteran running back were superficial, adding that Harris is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season and should be back on the field “sooner rather than later.” Rapoport also stated that Harris is not expected to miss significant time. Even so, any missed time in camp could cut the expected snap rate gap between he and rookie first-round selection Omarion Hampton to start the regular season, something fantasy managers will want to keep an attentive eye on as the following weeks play out.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #18
Chargers placed WR Mike Williams on the PUP list.
Players placed on the PUP list ahead of camp can come off at any time. Williams was dealing with an unspecified injury before the start of camp and was believed to be on track toward playing once camp kicked off. Clearly needing more time to recover, Williams will join WR Jaylen Johnson, S Elijah Molden, LB Del’Shawn Phillips, and OT Savion Washington on the PUP list as they continue to ready themselves for camp.
  • NYJ Wide Receiver #5
Jets signed WR Garrett Wilson to a four-year, $130 million contract extension.
Wilson’s deal includes $90 million in guaranteed money and will keep him with the Jets through the 2030 season. The former No. 10 overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft has churned out three-straight seasons of 1,000-plus yards to start his career and posted career-highs in receptions (101), yards, (1,104), and touchdowns (7) last season. Now reunited with former college teammate Justin Fields, Wilson hopes the Jets can put together his first winning season as a pro and the Jets’ first winning season since 2015. Wilson profiles as a fringe WR1/WR2, but will likely settle more in the WR2 range in 2025 due to the Jets’ emphasis on the run and Fields’ ability to take off and scramble on passing downs.
  • FA Quarterback #14
    Raiders waived QB Carter Bradley.
Bradley joined the Raiders last offseason as a rookie UDFA and spent all of last season on the practice squad before being promoted to the 53-man roster in December. The former South Alabama Jaguar didn’t attempt a pass in his rookie season and will now look to catch on with another team ahead of training camp in hopes of battling for a roster spot. Bradley may be better suited for a spring football league where he would have an opportunity for more playing time.
  • NE Wide Receiver #1
The Athletic’s Chad Graff believes Stefon Diggs (knee) will “likely open camp by working on the side until he’s cleared from his injury.”
Diggs suffered a torn ACL in Week 8 of last season, but surprised during spring practices when he took the field in a limited capacity with the team. While he’s yet to be cleared for full football activities, Graff believes the encouraging spring we saw from Diggs may lead to some limited work to the side in camp while leaving the door open for Diggs to eventually participate in full closer to the end of camp. While opening the season on the PUP list, which would require him to miss a minimum of four games, remains a possibility, Diggs’ involvement in camp will be worth monitoring as the Patriots aim to get their WR1 back on the field.
  • CLE Running Back
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department released a report detailing additional information regarding Quinshon Judkins’ arrest for domestic battery over the weekend.
The full report can be found at the link provided at the end of the blurb, but the details are quite disturbing. Arresting officer Steven Pohorence reported that the victim of Judkins’ alleged assault reported the incident the day after it occurred, alleging Judkins “punched her in the mouth/chin area with a closed fist” while adding he later struck her in the arm and thigh. The victim also showed pictures of her chin/lip area, with officer Pohorence noting in the report “the bruising was clearly evident.” Bruises could also be found on her arm and thigh. This situation is far from resolved and could have a direct impact on Judkins’ availability for training camp as he remains unsigned at this time.
  • SF Wide Receiver #15
The Athletic’s Matt Barrows reports Jauan Jennings “is expected to be on hand when the 49ers’ veterans report for training camp next Tuesday.”
This comes after it was announced that Jennings was seeking either a new contract or a trade before the start of this season. Jennings reporting to camp is good in theory, but as Barrows also points out, last year’s Brandon Aiyuk situation showed a player reporting to camp while in a contract dispute can be anything but beneficial. In recent years, players have resorted to “hold-ins” during camp to avoid fines for not reporting, which could be Jennings’ approach when he does report next week. We’ll likely get a better sense of where things are headed with this situation as camp draws nearer.
  • SF Wide Receiver #15
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports 49ers WR Jauan Jennings is seeking a new contract or a trade before the start of the season.
It’s odd that this would come out a week before training camp rather than earlier in the offseason, but Jennings’ desire for a new deal is warranted. The sixth-year receiver is coming off a breakout season in which he caught 77 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns — all career-highs, and is expected to play a significant role this season. The 49ers extended Jennings’ contract last season, but he’s set to earn just $7.5 million in the final year of his deal, which is well-below what a player of his caliber should be earning. With Brandon Aiyuk (knee) a likely PUP candidate and Ricky Pearsall entering the season with much to prove, it goes without saying that Jennings is the best available receiver on the 49ers right now, which could spur the team to get a new deal done. That said, we’ve seen the Niners drag out contract discussions before, and wouldn’t expect anything immediate as this story continues to develop.
