This news comes just two days after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Raiders would retain Telesco after parting ways with Antonio Pierce. Telesco is officially one-and-done as the Raiders’ general manager. Telesco nailed the first round of last year’s draft when he selected Brock Bowers with the No. 13 pick, but the plan to sign Gardner Minshew as the team’s starting quarterback for the season while also stringing together the worst running game in the league didn’t help his argument. The Athletic’s
Dianna Russini reports that the firing of Telesco was “mostly because ownership seems to prefer having the general manager and head coach more connected — like a cohesive partnership,” suggesting his dismissal was not all performance based. Telesco spent 11 years as the Chargers’ GM and was fired after Week 15 in a season that ended with a 5-12 record. It wouldn’t be surprising to hear his name mentioned in other circles as teams search for their next GM heading into 2025.
